I recently had the opportunity to do a program for the Professional Photographers of California’s Pro Photo Expo, which is their state convention, on how I’m still using film in my day to day portrait work. Kodak Alaris was one of the sponsors of the convention and they were kind enough to send me 10 sheets of Tri-X 4×5 sheet film so that I could produce some portraits on the material for my presentation.
I just returned from a week long investment in photographic education in an effort to improve my craft and learn a new skill set that I plan to introduce to my clients later this year. Where did I learn all of this? At the Professional Photographers of California‘s West Coast School on the beautiful campus of the University of San Diego.
I had the good fortune to attend a landscape photography work shop with the Professional Photographers of California a few weeks ago in the majestic Yosemite National Park! It was three days of having my breath taken away in awe of this amazing place.
I had the privilege of creating this young man’s high school senior portraits last week. He was another great subject to work with and just perfect to use the large format 4×5 film camera to expose a few sheets of film on him.
I had the great pleasure of being asked to speak at a monthly guild meeting of the Professional Photographers of Orange County last week in Santa Ana, CA and then teach a day long workshop the following day on my Black & White Children’s Character Portraits. One the the great things about teaching is I always learn something new while teaching others!
One of the great things about photography for me is the opportunity to share what I’ve learned through the hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions of mistakes I’ve made along the way with other photographers. The Professional Photographers of America has an educational series called SuperOne Day that I’m super excited to be participating in again this spring with my friend and colleague Diane Costello.
It’s hard to believe that we’re almost a quarter of the way through 2017 and that I haven’t posted content in a very long time. That all changes now as now I have many more items of interest to write about.
